William Jackson "Uncle Billy" Smiley, 93 of Jesup died Sunday, January 26, 2020.  The Long County native was a member of Poplar Head Missionary Baptist Church and 32-year retired U.S. Army Veteran, serving in WWII, Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He had a love for old cars and tractors. Billy was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Avis Baxter Smiley; a son, Roger Dale Smiley; parents, Manton and Evie Smiley; a sister, Itaska Smiley Waters; a brother, Jimmie Tavy Smiley.

Survivors are a granddaughter, Kristin (SFC Steven) Jolin of JBLM, Washington and her mother, Glenda Gail Smiley(caretaker); two great grandchildren, Jayden and Jace Jolin; caretakers and nephew, Kevin (Lori) Smiley and a niece, Barbara Waters Pearson.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Friday, January 31, 2020 at Poplar Head Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Long and Rev. Tommy Ray officiating. Interment will be in the Poplar Head Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be the staffs of Huddle House and the American Legion Post 311.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
