Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Wayne Manning, 57, of Screven, Ga. died on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.  The Wayne County native was a member of Crossroads Church of God and a Captain and Jail Administrator with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.  He also had a certification with accident reconstruction, was an arson investigator, deputy coroner, sniper and honor guardsman. He was also a 3 rd degree Master Mason and Secretary for the Lodge, Elk's Club member, former past president of the Jesup Jaycees where he worked on the Fair Committee for many years and Leadership Wayne Graduate. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, crafting leather and owner of Manning Custom Leather. Other interests were spending time with his grandchildren, gardening and smoking meats for his church and community. His parents, Lloyd and Marilyn Webb preceded him in death.

Survivors are his wife of 16 years, Tammi Roberson of Screven; a daughter, Rusti (Ryan) Harrison of Gum Branch; two sons, Timothy Hewitt of Screven and Richard (Kristen)Hewitt of Bozeman, Montana; 8 grandchildren, Hayden, Emma, Kyler-Ann, Piper, Ezra, Adalyn, Alivia and Kensi; two sisters, Lucretia (Hutch) Hutchinson of Lawton, OK and Linda Southwell of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Lonnie (Judy) Manning of Odum and Phil (Erin) Manning of Cummings; several nieces and nephews; very special friends, Steven (Donna) Crane and Sandra Tarantino, both of Odum.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Crossroads Church of God with Pastor Brandon Stone and Rev. Keith Lairsey officiating with COVID precautions in place with masks. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark and Kyle Manning, John Carter, Phillip Spell and all law enforcement.  Interment will follow in the Screven City Cemetery with full law enforcement honors and full Masonic rites.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
