Jesup, Ga. Sumpter Mann "Red" Flowers, Jr.,78 of Jesup, Ga. died Monday, February 27, 2012 in Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Ga. after an extended illness. The Wayne County, Ga. native was a member of Odum Baptist Church and Superintendent and Public Works Director for the City of Jesup for 35 years. He returned as a part time operator for the past 11 years, was a graduate of Odum High School, volunteered as a Jesup Firefighter for many years, enjoyed sports including basketball and baseball. He was predeceased by his parents, Sumpter and Effie Trowell Flowers. Survivors are his wife of 21 years, Delta "Deb" Thornton Flowers of Jesup, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and John Shaw of Waycross, Ga.; 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Sumpter Mann Flowers, III, Shawn and Christy Flowers, both of Odum, Ga.; 2 step-daughters and a step-son-in-law, Kim and Eddie Morris of Greenville, S.C., Kristy Culpepper of Jesup, Ga.; 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, John A. and Mary Flowers, Rickey Flowers, both of Odum, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Rev. Carl Ledbetter and Mike Deal officiating. Interment will be in the Odum City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Eddie Williams, Jay Aske, Aubrey Mansfield, Ian Greene, Thad Brackin, and Mike Deal. Honorary pallbearers will be the retired and active City of Jesup employees. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the funeral home. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup, Ga. is in charge of arrangements.
