Jesup, Georgia John F. Clark, 81, of Jesup, Ga., died Monday, June 3, 2013, in the Memorial Health and University System in Savannah, Ga., after a short illness. The Claxton, Ga., native and long term resident of Jesup, Ga., spent 25 years in Rock Hill, SC, prior to retiring in Jesup. He was a deacon of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as teacher of the Men's Sunday School Class, brotherhood, and was active with the outreach program of the church. He was a retired trucker with Bowman and Frederick Trucking, a U. S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean conflict and was currently employed with Poppell's Produce. His favorite pastimes were bike riding and fishing. He was predeceased by his former wife, Gladys Walker Clark and his son, Tony Clark. Survivors are his wife, Shirley Poppell Clark of Jesup; a daughter, Kathy Griner Watkins of Statesboro; several siblings; 3 grandchildren, Katrina (Joshua) Burdick of Valdosta, Melissa (Ashley) Cole of Midway, John Clark of Wisconsin, 8 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Hannah, Krysta, Kaleb, Coda, Navaeh, Kristana, Lyla, a step-son, Stephen Poppell, step-daughters, Donna Fales and Gail Phillips, several step-grandchildren. Funeral services will 11 A.M. Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Vann Dempsey officiating. Interment will be in the New Home Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ashley Cole, Joshua Burdick, Chris Carey, Jonathan Poppell, William Hall and John Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the funeral home.
