Jesup, Ga.

Betty Jean Hires Westberry, 81, of Jesup went to live with her Heavenly Father on Monday, July 4, 2016, in Harborview Health System under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.   She was born on October 23, 1934, graduated from Odum High School in 1952, and married her childhood sweetheart, Fred, on March 19, 1955. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt. Betty was the epitome of a God-fearing woman who loved her family and specialized in making her house a home. Her skills in the kitchen were unmatched and she was known for her delicious meals and always "making sure you were fed" when you came for a visit. She served on the Bereavement Committee at her church where she ministered to many hurting families. She served in her younger years as a choir member, director of Christmas plays, various Ladies Ministries roles, and was a faithful Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of Jesup Church of God and was a strong prayer warrior for those in need. Her prayers with so many at the altar were well known and respected and her legacy of living a Christian life will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Kaye Westberry; parents, Leon Edward and Maggie Ree Williams Hires; sister, Josephine Meadows; 3 brothers, Fred Edward Hires, Sr., Ted Malcolm Hires and Leon Edward Hires, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Dr. Carter L. Meadows, Vernon Thornton, L. C. Taylor; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willie and Othell Westberry.

Survivors left to cherish her precious memory are her husband of 61 years, Fred Westberry; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and Kenny Herrin of Jesup and Rev. Bud and Faye Womack of Americus; grandchildren, Brendan and Danielle Herrin of Jesup, Breanne and Caleb Dawson of Tifton, Kayla and Kelsey Womack of Americus; great grandson, Abram Tate Herrin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethelene "Coonie" and Alvin Carter, Kathleen Thornton all of Jesup, Maggieleen and Billy Wise of Pembroke, Carolyn and Joey Bauman of Jefferson, Gladys and Dr. Aaron Goldberg of Sandy Springs, Mary Thornton of Vidalia; brother and sister-in-law, John and Terri Hires of Villa Rica; 2 sisters-in-law, Bernice Hires of Stone Mountain and Wanda Hires of Jacksonville, Florida; 3 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law, Wayne and Mattie Westberry, Donald and Sandra Westberry, Glenn Westberry, and Carolyn Taylor all of Jesup; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Jesup Church of God with Rev. Robert Daugherty, Sr. and Rev. Clayton Dowd officiating. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the funeral home.
