Jesup, Ga.

Danette Smith Chapman, 81 of Jesup died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 after a short illness.  The Long County native had lived most of her life in Jesup and was a member of Jesup First Baptist Church.  Danette loved her Lord and served His church all her life by providing beautiful music.  She played the piano and organ and directed the choir in several area churches, including the last 18 years at Flemington Presbyterian Church.  Her music was a joy and a comfort to many people.  Danette enjoyed traveling and star gazing.  She was a member of the Jesup Garden Club and NSDAR Altamaha Chapter.  Her most favorite pastime was spending time with her family that she loved so much. She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Trudy Smith and 3 siblings.

Survivors are her beloved husband of 61 years, Lloyd Chapman of Jesup; children, Nanette and Ford Baskin of Savannah, Lloyd Chapman and Channing Mercer of Atlanta; grandchildren, Chelsea and Nathan Holman, Amanda and Taylor Moats; great grandson, Oliver Holman; sister, Mavis Drawdy, sister-in-law, Eddress Smith; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Friday, August 11, 2017 at Flemington Presbyterian Church, 875 Old Sunbury Road, Hinesville, Ga. 31313 with Rev. Greg Loskoski officiating. Interment will be in the Jones Creek Memorial Gardens in Long County, Ga. Active pallbearers will be Van Loskoski, Jim Floyd, Ross Floyd, Leroy Strickland, Cecil Stafford and Kenny Stohl. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the NSDAR Altamaha Chapter.

The family will receive friends at the fellowship hall at the church one hour prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the NSDAR Altamaha Chapter, 7 South Lake Drive, Jesup, Ga.  31546 or the Flemington Presbyterian Church, 875 Old Sunbury Road, Hinesville, Ga. 31313.
