November 12, 1929 – March 2, 2026
Mr. Vernon Edward Jackson, Sr., 96, of Jesup, Ga. went to his heavenly home on March 2, 2026. Born in Wayne County to Millard and Mae Jackson, he was drafted into the Army in 1951 at the age of 21 and then to Fort Bliss, TX for boot camp and directly to K-town, Germany where he served with Battery C 45th AAA Gun Battery. He returned to Wayne County in 1953 and married Sadie Nettles. He served as post Commander of VFW Post 4583 1996/1997. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 311. Mr. Jackson was proud to have served his country. In honor his many years of service in the VFW and armed services, July 15, 2023 was proclaimed "Vernon and Sadie Jackson Day" in Wayne County by Mayor Ralph Hickox. He also served several years as an auxiliary policeman for the Jesup Police Department. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, spending time with his family, his fur babies, and dancing with his bride.
Survivors are his wife of 73 years, Sadie Nettles Jackson of Jesup, daughter, Karen (Steven) Murphy of Guyton; a son, Vernon Jackson, Jr. and partner Angela of Screven; sister, Helen (Parell) Harris of Brunswick; 5 grandchildren, Brenna (John) Lefcourt, Craig Murphy, Vernon (Jessica) Jackson, III, Kira Jackson, Hannah (Dan) Lilley; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stanley Todd officiating. Interment will be held in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Jesup VFW and American Legion and Rudy and Sheila Burcham
Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
