Thomas (Tom) P. James Jr. of Jesup, Ga., died at home on September 7, 2024. A Wayne County native, his parents were Thomas P. James Sr. and Sara Griffin James. Tom graduated from Wayne County High School in 1971 and earned his undergraduate and master's degrees in education at Georgia Southern University. He taught middle school science for over 30 years and helped educate thousands of students in the Wayne County and Liberty County school systems. In addition to teaching, Tom started a short-lived moped business and liked to fix up classic cars. Tom was a member of Jesup First United Methodist Church. He was instrumental in the 1970s renovation of the Historic Strand Cinema and often worked weekend nights at the Jesup Drive-In with fellow teacher friends. Tom loved having summers off, grilling barbecue ribs, the Beatles, and watching classic television show reruns. He also loved telling "dad jokes."

Tom is survived by his three sons: Preston, Harrison, and Spencer (Kayla DeJesus); grandson Luca; sister Stacy J. Harris; nephews Zachary and Christopher Harris; several great nephews and cousins; and his beloved and faithful dog Chubs.

The family is forever grateful for the help that Faye Jones has provided for Tom at home over the last few years.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Rinehart Chapel with Pastor Rebecca Duke-Barton and Rev. James Sapp officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his family and friends.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
