Theodore Glenn Williams, M.D., 83, of Jesup, Ga. died Thursday, May 18, 2023. The Cordele, Georgia native had lived in Wayne County for the past few years and was a member of Altamaha Baptist Church. He attended public school in Cordele and after graduation attended the University of Georgia and attended one year of veterinarian school where he roomed with his life-long friend, Dr. Bill Reeves of Americus, Ga. but transferred to Medical College of Georgia to pursue a career in medicine. His graduation of from medical school coincided with some of the most active years of the Vietnam War and he enlisted in the Navy and was commissioned a Lieutenant Commander and assigned to the hospital ship, Repose, in Vietnam and became an orthopaedic surgeon as this was the need of the ship. After returning from Vietnam, he entered an orthopaedic residency program in Louisville, Kentucky and was given one year's credit for this service. He also obtained a fellowship in hand surgery at Kleinert Hand Center and became member of the Harkess Society. After residency, he moved to Albany, Georgia and became a very active member of Sherwood Baptist Church and entered practice with Dr. A.M. "Mac" Freeman and Dr. Donald L. Boyd at Orthopaedic Associates, Inc. where he practiced until his retirement in 2014. After moving to Jesup, he became a member of Altamaha Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially the annual hunting trips with Dr. Carl Hancock and Dr. George Chastain. He also hunted with this good friend, Dr. Chuck Mendenhal. He had many adventures with his dear friend, Frank Ahouse ranging from camping to working on projects and tinkering with tractors. He could always be seen on the sidelines of most public school football games as he served as the team physician.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Ivey Wiliams; six children, Theodore Glenn Williams "Ted", Jr. (Buffy), Lillian "LiL" Williams (Mike) Hoepfinger, Elizabeth "Liz" Williams Mathison (Brett); William Gerald Williams, Jay Stuart (Lorraine) Williams, Mary Amelia "Mia" Williams Yeager (Clay); thirteen grandchildren, Harrison Williams, Lasseter Williams (Ted's kids); Rich Hoepfiner, Lizy Hoepfinger (Lil's kids); Jack, Will and Charlie (Liz's kids) Gunner Williams (Jerry's child); Megan Williams, Molly Williams, Jackson Williams (Jay's kids); William Howe Yeager "Howe" and Kathryn Raines Yeager" Birdie" (Mia's kids); one brother, Noel (Kay) Williams; a sister, Mary Williams Husley and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2023 from Hughes and Wright Funeral Home in Cordele, Ga.
Family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup and Hughes Wright Funeral Home of Cordele are assisting the family with arrangements.
