Obituary

Shirley Ross Proudfoot, 85 of the Mt. Pleasant Community passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.  The Kentucky native had lived in Glynn and Wayne Counties for most of her adult life.  She was an active member of Akin Memorial Church where she taught Bible School and sang in the church choir.  Her career began as a pharmacy technician at Stutts Pharmacy in Brunswick and then she supported her husband in his business SouthGeorgia Site Prep. Her favorite past time was shopping. She loved Jesus and jewelry and is now dancing the streets of gold.   Shirley also loved to travel and see the world. Her husband of 59 years, Charles Richard "Doc" Proudfoot, Sr., preceded her in death along with two brothers, Lincoln and Ralph Ross.

Survivors are a daughter, Shirley "Shirl" (Sammy) Shirah of Townsend; a son, Ricky (Ginger) Proudfoot of Mt. Pleasant Community; 3 grandchildren, Richie Proudfoot, Becca Proudfoot and Joshua Sumner; two great grandchildren, Noah and Leila; a sister, Patti Lewellen; chosen family, Owen and Linda Greene; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday, September 13, 2024 at Akin Memorial Church with Pastor Rick Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert Greene, Richie Proudfoot, Josh Sumner, Trevor Lamb, Richard and Trent Wells. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Harborview Nursing Home.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Akin Memorial Church 836 Post Rd. Hortense, Ga. 31543.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
