Screven, Georgia Roy "Vernon" Tyre, 84, of Screven, GA, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. The Wayne Co., GA, native was a member of the O'Quinn Baptist Church, a retired 32 year employee of CSX Railroad, and a farmer. He was a member of the Screven Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and served his country in the U. S. Army. He was predeceased by his wife: Margaret Cook Tyre and a granddaughter: Mindy Gail Harris. Survivors are 2 daughters & sons-in-law: June T. (Jim) Scott of Jesup, GA, Margaret Gail T. (Foster) Harris of Fernandina Beach, FL, 4 sons & daughters-in-law: Roy (Danise) Tyre of Waycross, GA, Kenneth (Julie) Tyre, Ronnie J. (Kathy) Tyre, Timothy Mark (Dana) Tyre, all of Screven, GA, 3 sisters: Ruth T. Harrison of Hortense, GA, Nettie T. Hathaway of Anderson, SC, Shirley T. Jones of Jesup, GA, a brother: Henry Fred Tyre of Waycross, GA, 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, a special caregiver: Linda Aspinwall, several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be 11 A. M. Saturday, April 23, 2011, from the O'Quinn Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Todd & Rev. Billy Tyre officiating. Entombment will be in the Screven City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Kevin Barton, Brian Tyre, Stacy Tyre, Caleb Tyre, Kyle Tyre, Michael Harris, & Brandon Tyre. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P. M. Friday from the funeral home.
