Odum, Georgia

Roy Lavern "R.  L." Poppell, 83, of Odum, died Monday, October 17, 2022.  The Wayne Co., GA, native was a member of the Bethlehem Wesleyan Church, enjoyed playing the piano, working with the music ministry, and he worked for many years managing Poppell Motors. He was an avid gardener, a U. S. Army Veteran, proudly serving in Okinawa with the National Security Agency, and loved being a "Granddaddy". He was predeceased by his parents, Nathan and Lois Poppell, and a daughter, Lisa Poppell.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Doug (Paige) Poppell of Greensboro; 3 granddaughters, Dr. Katie Hollowoa of Little Rock, Ark., Emily Poppell of Dallas, Tx., and Amanda Poppell of Charleston, Sc,; a brother, Nathan Elbert Poppell of Odum; two nieces and two nephews.

Private memorial services are being held by his family.

The Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of the arrangements.
