Obituary

Roger Dale Oglesby, 81, of Screven, died Sunday, April 13, 2025 after a short illness. He was born in Glynn County to J.W. and Dorothy O'Quinn Oglesby where he lived until moving to Screven in 1995. Roger's hobby as a middle- aged man was horses and riding the games on his horse, "Pam". Over the years, he served as president of the D-D Saddle Club, Circle W Saddle Club, Costal Plains Association and the Georgia Federation of Saddle Clubs. He worked 28 years at LCP and 5 years at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in the maintenance departments and completed the final 17 years of employment as the Director of Maintenance at Wayne County Housing Authority.  He was predeceased by two brothers, J.L. Oglesby and Jerry Oglesby.

Survivors are his wife of 47 years, Debra Wimpey Oglesby; two daughters, Sue Lynn Taylor of Brunswick and Jami Dale Riddle of Screven; 4 grandchildren, Marandon (Ben) Wray and Tabitha (John) Loper, both of Brunswick, and Dusty Riddle of Screven, Paris (T.J.) Rojas of Oceanside, CA; great grandchildren, Lakyn Loper and Tate Wray , Lexie and Seph Wray all of Brunswick ; one Godchild, Averi Grace Sloan; a sister, Ann Nelson, brother, Paul (Judy) Oglesby, sister-in-law, Julia Oglesby of Brunswick; in laws, Shannon (Nell) Wimpey, Larry (Dot) Wimpey, Patsy (Brian) Wilbur, Mary Ann (Gary) Flowers, and Glen Mullis, all of Screven and Marie (Bill) Schwarz of Ellijay.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2025 at O'Quinn Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Mullis officiating.

Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to services at the church.

A "Fish Fry", one of Roger's favorite events, will be held immediately after the church service at Heavenly Acres Arena.

His family encourages casual or western attire for service.

In lieu of flowers, a donation is requested at to his favorite charitable organization, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
