Obituary

Reverend Robert Paul Herrin, age 88, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on March 21, 2026, just days before his 89th birthday. He was born on March 27, 1937, in Jesup, Georgia.

Robert was a lifelong and devoted member of the Church of God. He gave his heart to the Lord as a 12-year-old freckle-faced boy, a decision that would define the course of his life. At just 17 years old, while still in high school, he preached his first sermon. By the age of 19, he had entered full-time ministry, beginning what would become more than 60 years of faithful service to God and His people.

Robert attended Lee College before returning to full-time evangelism ministry. It was during an evangelistic campaign in Savannah, Georgia, that he met his first wife, Schaunell Tomlinson. They were married in 1964, and in 1965 they moved to Augusta, where they planted the Fleming Church of God and welcomed their daughter, Latese. The Lord richly blessed their ministry, and the church experienced both spiritual outpouring and meaningful growth. In 1969, they welcomed their son, Torrey.

After nine years of pastoring in Augusta, Robert and Schaunell moved to Atlanta in 1974, where he served as the Youth and Christian Education Director for the state of Georgia. After four years, he returned to pastoral ministry in 1978 at the Doraville Church of God, where he served faithfully for eight years.

In 1986, Robert was appointed State Overseer of Indiana, serving for two years. In 1988, he became State Overseer of Virginia, based in Roanoke. During this time, the family faced great loss when Schaunell was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in June 1991.

Near the end of Robert’s term in Virginia the Lord brought Lisa Sheetz Quesenberry and her young son Joe into his life and they were married in February 1993. After completing his term in Virginia, Robert moved to Florida to serve as the Evangelism Director for North Florida.

In August 1994, Robert returned to pastoral ministry at the Regency Church of God in Jacksonville, Florida. After four years, he accepted the call to serve as Lead Pastor of the Plant City Church of God in October 1998. There, he had the great honor of serving together with his son Torrey for 14 years.

After 18½ years at Plant City, Robert retired in February 2017 at the age of 79, marking the conclusion of over six decades of ministry that exemplified his life’s motto, “Love Finds A Way”.

Following retirement, Robert and Lisa made their home in Cleveland, Tennessee and for the past nine years, they have attended Westmore Church of God. They affectionately became known as their neighborhood grandparents. Children and families alike were drawn to them—not only for a piece of candy, but for the warmth of a hug, a kind word, and a genuine smile. Robert was never known as a handyman, but the Lord blessed him with the greatest neighbor anyone could ever ask for. Paul Harvey, who lives across the street, was willing to answer any call for help or just keep him company on the front porch.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Schaunell Herrin; his father, Lawton Herrin; his mother, Naomi Rittenhouse Herrin Cothern; his sister, Wilma; his brother, Willis; and his brother-in-law, Don Hutchinson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Q. Herrin; his daughter, Latese and her husband, Philip; his son, Torrey and his wife, Polly; and his son, Joe. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Noah (and wife Maddy), Karson (and husband Samuel), Schaunie (and husband Davidson), Sophie, and Ellie; and his great-grandchildren: Lion, Mila, Sky, and Navy.

Robert’s greatest passions were serving God and his family—both of which he did with unwavering faithfulness, humility, and love.

Graveside services and Interment will be conducted on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 11:00 A. M. at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Noah Herrin officiating. Active pallbearers will be Robert's nephews: Kenny Herrin, Scotty Herrin, Robert Stephen Hutchinson, Shannon Hutchinson, Christian Hutchinson and Mark (Sparky) Horton. Randy Herrin will serve as honorary pallbearer.
