Jesup, Ga. Mary Anne Doss Ritch, 87, of Jesup, Ga., died Saturday, November 24, 2012 in Wayne Memorial Hospital after a short illness. The Canton, Ga. native had lived in Wayne County, Ga. since 1947 and was a member of First United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday school and was a member of the Una Ritch Yeomans Circle. She earned her bachelors and masters degree from the University of Georgia, where she was a percussionist in the Redcoat Band. She was a retired Wayne County High School U.S. History, Government and Journalism teacher that was awarded teacher of the year in 1982 and was the former runner-up for teacher of the year in the state competition. Mrs. Ritch was also the "Outstanding Journalism Teacher for Georgia". For 19 years, she worked well with Jostens Yearbook Company and won All-American Awards from the National Scholastic Press Association and Gold Medal Awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The Press Sentinel Newspaper featured her writing on the Society Page for many years where she elaborated on her extensive traveling excursions. She taught everyone who crossed her path, the importance of reading the newspaper. Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-laws, Nancy R. and Bill Miller of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Anne R. and Mark Miller of Jesup, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Ashlyn Ritch of Rome, Ga.; a sister, Nancy Holcombe of Arizona City, Az.; grandchildren, Carrie and Steve Molinari of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Katie and Will Bennett of Macon, Ga., Flynn Miller of Mobile, Ala., Whitney and Matthew Brookins of Jesup, Ga., Mary Lynn Ritch of Rome, Ga., Thomas Ritch of Lincoln, Ga.; 5 great grandchildren, Drew, Dean and Kate Mulinari, Libby and Davey Bennett; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Jesup First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tucker Lewis officiating. Interment will be in the Jesup City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her family. Visitation will be 10 to 11 A.M. prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for Jesup First United Methodist Church, 205 E. Cherry Street or Hospice of South Georgia Building Fund, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, Ga. 31545.
