Mary Ann Hodges Anderson, 91, of Jesup, Ga. died Friday, January 20 , 2023. A fifth-generation Wayne County native, the home she was born in on Bay Street still stands. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, in which her grandmother was a founder in 1905. She graduated from Jesup High School in 1949 and the University of Georgia in 1953 earning a degree in education. There she met the "love of her life", Charles "Chuck" Anderson, and married in 1954. She served as a Wayne County Educator for thirty-five years. She and her husband were among the founding members of Pine Forest Country Club where she had served as president of the Ladies Golf Association. She enjoyed her time golfing and playing in coastal area tournaments, playing tennis, playing in local bridge clubs, raising her three children, volunteering in their sporting events, and enjoyed many years with her four grandchildren. Her husband of 67 years, Chuck Anderson preceded her in death along with her son, Art Anderson, and parents, Jimps Hodges, and Laura Virginia Surrency Hodges.
Survivors are her daughter, Jan Anderson Davis of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl.; son, Jim Anderson of Jesup; grandchildren, Bart Anderson, Brent Anderson, Victoria (Cody) Brookshire, Stephanie (Hunter) Berger.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2023, from St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Father Nathan Wilson officiating. Private interment will be in the Jesup City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are friends of her Bridge groups, friends of Pine Forest Ladies Golf Association and friends of the Wayne County Retired Teachers Association.
Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
