Marilyn June Godwin, 91, died peacefully at home on October 11, 2022 with her loving family. She was the daughter of John S. Scott and Clara Saxon Scott of Joliet, IL. She accepted Jesus as her Savior June 18, 1942. She graduated from the Joliet Township High School in 1949. Later in 1954, she graduated as a Registered Nurse from The Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago. She met her husband while there in 1954 and they were married in 1955 at her home church and then headed for Screven, Ga. where they lived until they moved to her husband's farm and built a new home. She worked as a nurse at the Jesup hospital, then for Dr. Woodrow Yeomans as his office nurse and then the new Jesup Hospital. Her husband opened his own business, Godwin's Heating and Air Conditioning Company and the Lighthouse. Marilyn was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Jesup, Ga. for nearly 50 years where she was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class, taught Sunday School for many years and was active in many of the church activities. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, baking, reading, gardening and caring for her husband.
She is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Everett Godwin, her parents, John S. and Clara Saxon Scott; a brother, Lloyd R. (Toni) Scott of Petersburg, Fl.; sister, Mildred (Earl) Lundin of Spring Hill, Tn.; great grandson, Rowan Saige Godwin of Screven, Ga.
Survivors include her son, Scott E. (Phyllis) Godwin; daughter, Lisa (Doug) Yeomans; 4 grandsons, David (Caitlin) Hubble, Jonathan Hubble, Jeremy (Kalen) Godwin, and Cody Godwin all of Screven, Ga.; 5 great grandsons, Elijah Hubble, Easton Godwin, Rush Godwin, and Haze Godwin all of Screven; Rylan Godwin of Baxley, Ga.; two nieces, Carol (Darryl) Fluhart of Springhill, Tn.; Jeannine (Hector) Herrera of Morris, IL.; nephew, Ralph (Gayle) Scott of Clinton, Tn.; and her best friend for many years, Minnie Taylor.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Barron and Ralph Scott officiating. Private family interment will be at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Hubble, Jonathan Hubble, Jeremy Godwin, Cody Godwin, Eli Hubble and Easton Godwin. Honorary pallbearers will be the Berean Sunday School Class and The XYZ of First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd Jesup, GA 31545 or to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1115, Jesup, GA. 31598.
