Luther Steve Smith, 70, died Thursday, September 3, 2026. The Toombs County native had lived in several communities, including Odum and Jesup, Ga. and was a Baptist. His career included many years with the Department of Corrections in several institutions. He enjoyed the outdoors and was multi-talented in the wood working craft and many friends and family can attest to enjoying his secret homemade barbeque sauce. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and JoAnne Smith and a brother, Randy Smith.

Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Shelia (Brian) McCant of Milledgeville, Ga.; grandchildren, Brianna and Samantha McCant; and many cousins.

Memorial services will be held by his family.
