Lizzie Marie Thornton, 73, of Jesup, died Monday, November 19, 2018, at her residence. The Glynn County native lived in Wayne County most of her adult life. She was a member of Jesup Church of God and the Overcomer's Sunday School Class. Marie was one of thirteen children born to Clarence and Mary Lou Ammons, married Eugene Johnson in 1961 and out of this union came three children, Curtis, Angela, and Timothy. After coming to Christ and surrendering to the call of Ministry in the Church of God, they sold their possessions, burned their bridges, and moved to Omaha, Nebraska. She was a homemaker who loved her family and church. She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Mary Lou Thornton Ammons; brothers, Buddy and Bob Ammons; first husband, Eugene Johnson; son, Timothy Johnson; granddaughter, Brandy Sinclair; step-daughter, Lori Thornton.
Survivors are her husband of 23 years, Tracy Thornton of Jesup; daughter, Angela (Wade) Gill of Offerman; son, Curtis (Beth) Johnson of Zebulon; sisters, Maxine King and Maryann (Benny) Gest of Offerman, Margie Smith of Jesup, Vicky (Keith) Bowen and Melba (Jim) Byrd of Bristol; brothers, Danny (Betty) Ammons of Everett City, Donnie (Mary) Ammons of Blackshear, Daryl (Gail) Ammons of Offerman, Paul Ammons of Bristol, and Joe (Brenda) Ammons of Wildwood, Florida; grandchildren, Danyell Sweat, Merina Spell, Scott Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Adam (Nikki) Gill, Carol Ann (Hank) Griffis, and Samantha Johnson; several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; step-children, Matt (Julie) Thornton of Madisonville, Tennessee, Robin (Sarah) Thornton, and Travis (Wendy) Thornton of K-Ville Community.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at Jesup Church of God with Pastor Clayton Dowd and Rev. Carlton Ring officiating. Private family interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 prior to service at the church.
Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
