Obituary

Jesup, Ga. Leon Borden Manley, 85, of Jesup, Georgia died Tuesday, May 26, 2015 after an extended illness. A current resident of Wayne County, he was born in Fort Meade, Florida and moved to Colquitt County as a young child. In 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, June Aldridge. He graduated from Norman Park College and served in the Air Force while stationed in Fontainebleau, France. He was one of a limited number of radio instructors who introduced microwave technology in Europe. He returned home and attended Georgia Tech before becoming vice president of a major textile company in Atlanta. He later started his own business, Mantex, in Ludowici, Georgia. Mr. Manley was a member of Jesup First Baptist Church, the Golden Rulers Sunday School Class and was inducted into the Colquitt County Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 due to his outstanding athletic career at Moultrie High School. He was also a member of the "Liar's Club" of Jones Drug Store, the Jesup Elks Lodge and Pine Forest Country Club Men's Golf Association. He was an avid computer enthusiast and an amateur ham radio operator. He was passionate about his hobbies: scuba diving, boating, and golfing but his greatest love was his family. He was predeceased by his mother, Jackie Newton Bailey; brother, Gayle Newton Manley; and son, Leon Borden Manley, Jr. Survivors are his wife of sixty-four years, June Aldridge Manley; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Karen Manley of Anderson, South Carolina; daughters and son-in laws, Micki and Steve Holley of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Jackie and Randy Parks of Jesup, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Joshua Holley, Benjamin Holley, Rebecca Spivey, Chris Manley, Rhea Tomczyk, Ashley Reed, Jessica Ravenel, Kadie Parks, and Kim Shore; twelve great-grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Felix Haynes officiating. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Jesup Elks Lodge, Jones Drug Store Liar's Group, and PFCC Men's Golf Club. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Jesup First Baptist Church, 185 S. Brunswick Street, Jesup, GA 31546.
