Lee Waters, 94, of Jesup, Ga. passed away in the Hospice of South Georgia Inpatient Unit on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. The Wayne County native was born September 29, 1930 and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In October of 1948 he enlisted in the Army and in 1950 he was deployed to serve in the Korean Conflict and received several medals. Lee was delighted to serve as the Grand Marshall for the Veteran's Day parade. From 1955 to 1978 he was employed by the Life of Georgia Life Insurance Company and also developed a trailer park which he operated for about 20 years. Lee's favorite pastime was fishing. He was an extremely talented woodworker and one of his greatest accomplishments was building his first home and only home. After his retirement, he began building bird houses and children's rocking chairs. For about 12 years, he gifted a rocker to every baby born at Calvary Baptist Church. Lee was a man who loved God, country, family and people. He was blessed to live a rich and full life. His wife of 66 years, Catherine Tyre Waters preceded him in death along with his son-in-law, Larry Aspinwall; sisters, Eunice Westberry and Betty Ann Woodard; brother, Thomas Waters.
Survivors are his daughter, Pam Aspinwall of Jesup; granddaughters, Emily (Kasey) Stanley of Jesup and Erica (Dan) Brown of San Diego, California; great grandchildren, Sydney and Harrison Brown, Grae, Callaway, Warner, and Dade Jones.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, January 20, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Vann Dempsey and Pastor Pete Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Active pallbearers will be David Paul, Fred Holland, Mike Gordon, Mike Highsmith, Jim Franklin, Donald Holland, and Kyle Cato.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.
Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
