Judy James, 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 19, 2023 at Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation in Soperton, GA. The longtime resident of Jesup was born in Reidsville but considered Lyons her hometown.  It was in Lyons that she met the love of her life, Alton James, and they were married for 50 years.  She was a long-time faithful member at Calvary Baptist Church in Jesup. For many years she taught the 9-year-old girls Sunday School class and at various times served as nursery director and taught VBS. She was a stay-at-home Mom who lovingly provided wonderful care of her family. She had a fondness for eating out with family and friends and loved all sweets but especially a 10- layer chocolate cake. She was a wonderful cook, but always preferred Alton's cooking She is preceded in death by her parents Robert L. Horne, Sr., and Virginia Summerford Horne; and her husband, Alton.

She is survived by her son, Al (Cathy) James of Wake Forest, NC; her daughter, Ginger Oglesby of Jesup; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; half-sisters, Anne Horne Jaudon (FL) and Fran Horne Sapp (MD); and half-brother, Robert L. Horne, Jr. (CA).

The family appreciates the great care she received from the staff at TCHR, and a special appreciation for her granddaughter and favorite nurse, Angie.

A private graveside service with Dr. Al James officiating was held at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
