Joy Williamson Tuten, 89, of Waycross, Ga. passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Ware County native and longtime resident had been living at Mossy Oak in Jesup the past 15 years. She graduated with honors from Surrency High School and was an all-star basketball player. Joy was a member of Screven First Baptist Church. She retired after 32 years from AT&T as a service assistant. In her free time, she loved to shop for clothes, shoes and jewelry. She also looked forward to her weekly beauty salon trips to visit with friends. Her husband, Luther Tuten preceded her in death along with her parents, Stewart and Maggie Williamson.
Survivors are a son, Harvey (Brandy "Beth") Tuten of Bristol; a granddaughter, Stefanie (Dwight) Ashton of Sorrento, Fla.; two great grandchildren, Dawson and Skyler Ashton; a sister, Bobbie Jean Aspinwall of Screven; two nieces, Debbie (David) Six and Linda (Cliff) Kicklighter, both of Screven; two great nephews, Jonathan (Sally) Six of NC and Will (Rachel) Tyre of Screven; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Rinehart Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Six and Durwood Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dwight, Stefanie, Dawson and Skyler Ashton, Jonathan Six and Harvey Tuten.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
