Earland "John" Wentworth, Jr., 72, of Jesup, Ga. passed away under the care of Hospice of South Georgia on Thursday, August 10, 2023.  The Florida native had lived in Wayne County the past 50 years and attended Calvary Baptist Church.  He was a retired engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation. John was an umpire for the Wayne County Recreational Department for many years.  Some favorite hobbies included golf, playing cards, fishing, chess and reading. His parents, Earland and Lillian preceded him in death along with his son, Earland John Wentworth, III; a sister, Lindia O'Neal; two brothers, Norman and Cecil; two stepsons, Ben Harris and Carey Lee.

Survivors are his wife of 17 years, Joan Lindell Wentworth of Jesup; a son, John (Courtney) Wentworth of Lakeland, Fla.; two step-daughters, Rhonda Lee and Elizabeth (John) Smiley; two step-sons, Tommy (Jacki) Lee and Terry Taylor; 3 sisters, Denise Mahoney, Christine Collins and Judy (David) Johnsen; two brothers, David (Christy) Wentworth and Billy (Christine) Wentworth; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be 2 PM Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Pastor Pete Boyd officiating.
