Obituary

John Ganz Hensley, 78, of Jesup, GA, died Sunday, June 5, 2022.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family.  He enjoyed hobbies such as hunting, fishing and building things. The Nebraska native and US Army veteran settled in Wayne County in 1989 and served as an Associate Warden for FCI Jesup.  He played an integral part of the planning and construction of the prison.  John took his position very seriously, and as a reward for his efforts, the entrance road to the facility was named "Hensley Road".   He was a member of the Jesup United Methodist Church, the Jesup Elks Lodge, and was also a Shriner and Mason.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Gelene Hensley of Jesup; daughter, Debbie Hensley of Baton Rouge, LA; son, John G. (Holly) Hensley of Jacksonville, FL; brother David (Jean) Hensley of Gordon, NE; grandchildren Justin and Chase Hensley of Jacksonville, FL.

A celebration of his life will be at 2:00pm Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Rev. Vann Dempsey officiating.  Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with military honors.   Active pallbearers will be his fellow members of the Jesup Elks Lodge.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jesup Elks Aidmore Hospital, 2394 Morrison Road SW, Conyers, GA 30094.

Rinehart Sons Funeral Home of Jesup, Ga. is in charge of arrangements.
