Jo Ann Anderson Hingson Jeffers, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Kingsland, Georgia, on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Born on October 18, 1947, Jo Ann was the beloved daughter of the late Herman Preston Britt Anderson and Ruth Marie Walker. She grew up in Brunswick, Georgia, where she formed the foundation of a life defined by strength and devotion to family.

Jo Ann was a woman of remarkable character. Feisty, strong-willed, and unapologetically herself, she carried a commanding presence. She expected respect and deeply valued loyalty, yet possessed a heart big enough to give everything she had to the people she loved. She was fiercely protective of her family, who will forever cherish her vibrant spirit and unwavering support.

In her free time, Jo Ann was an avid lover of game shows, crossword puzzles, reading, and her favorite soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful. She had a passion for Rummy and board games, especially Monopoly and Trouble. Those who played with her knew to keep a close eye on her, as she was famous for cheating at every opportunity—always with an innocent look and a claim that it was just an honest mistake.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Hingson; her second husband, Myron Jeffers; her parents, Britt and Ruth Anderson; and her brother, Harold J. Anderson.

She leaves behind a large, loving family to honor her memory, including her brother, Herman (Rommie) Anderson; her four children, Lynn Starratt, Dawne Hingson (Brett Blackshear), Thomasina (Cie) Dobyns, and Teresa Ann Warren; her nine grandchildren, Joseph Starratt, Patsy Resseguie (Chris), Courtney Griffin, Shaun Griffin (Jessica), Madison Murphy, MaKenzie Murphy, Megan Graham (Russell), Macie Hamel (Michael), and Cindy Warren; and six cherished great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Screven City Cemetery, located at 303 Odom Screven Road, Screven, GA 31560. The Reverend Eric Taylor will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Jo Ann Jeffers to the Oceanway Congregational Holiness Church, 4714 Bankhead Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
