Obituary

James "Jimmy" Ogden, 72, of Odum, Ga. died Thursday, March 24, 2022.  The Wayne County native grew up in Odum and playing football for Wayne County High School.  He went on to play football at the college level and obtained a degree from Austin Peay University and taught history. A change of careers steered him to work as a signal maintainer at CSX Railroad Company in Florida where he retired after 37 years. Jimmy moved home after retirement and enjoyed the great outdoor life as a camper, hunter and fisher. The Altamaha River was an especially favorite spot. His wife of 32 years, Tena Ogden preceded him in death along with his stepson, Marty Cheatham and his parents, Milton and Ruby Ogden.

Survivors are two sons, Kyle (Terra) Ogden of Waynesboro and Sean (Katie) Ogden of Odum; 5 grandchildren, Kaitlyn (James) Pennington and Sydney, Tyson, Aliceson and Sophie Ogden; a great granddaughter, Madison Pennington; 3 brothers, George (Kay) Ogden, Robert (Karen) Ogden and Glynn (Pat) Ogden, all of Odum; several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life service will be 2-4 PM Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Altamaha Baptist Church. Private interment will be in the Altamaha Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Altamaha Baptist Church, 6622 Oglethorpe Road, Jesup, GA 31545 or Georgia Hospice Care, 141 S. Macon Street, Jesup, GA 31545.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
