James Morris
Melvin
December 15, 1943 – April 15, 2026
Mr. James Morris Melvin, 82, beloved husband of Mrs. Linda Fuller Melvin, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, peacefully at home, surrounded by the comfort of the life he built and the love he cherished.
A private memorial service will be held with his family.
Morris was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Morris Melvin.
Left to honor and carry forward his memory are his devoted wife of many years, Linda; his cherished grandchildren, Cody Melvin (Elizabeth), Alex Melvin, and Max Melvin; his precious great-grandchildren, Ella and Berkley Melvin and his beloved dog, Bingo. He is also fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Born in Taylor County, Georgia, Morris was the son of the late James and Agnes Wainwright Melvin. A hardworking and determined man, he dedicated many years of service to the railroad before embarking on a new chapter as an entrepreneur. He founded Wayne’s Commercial Cleaning and later owned and operated a salvage yard until 2022, always taking pride in his work and the life he built with his own hands.
Morris also gave back to his community through his service as a City Councilman in Jesup, Georgia, where he faithfully served for nine years. He found simple joy in life’s pleasures, whether casting a line while fishing or trying his luck at the casinos, and he treasured the friendships and stories that came along the way.
A man of faith, Morris was a member of First Baptist Church in Jesup, Georgia, and attended Hillview Baptist Church in Graniteville, South Carolina. He was also a dedicated friend of Bill W. for forty years, a testament to his strength, perseverance, and commitment to helping others along life’s journey.
Morris will be remembered for his steady presence, his strong work ethic, and the love he gave so freely to his family and friends. His life leaves behind a legacy of resilience, service, and enduring love.
Hatcher Funeral Home of Aiken, SC is in charge of arrangements.
