James E. Carter, 93 of Jesup, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024 after a brief illness. James was born in Jacksonville, Florida, the oldest child of Harry Eugene Carter and Mildred Withrow. He was raised and lived in Odum until he married and moved to Jesup. James was a Christian man in every sense of the word. He was also a devoted husband to his wife Patsy, a loving father, and a doting grandfather and great grandfather. He spent the last 61 years loving, protecting, providing and caring for our extended family. It was a commitment that he embraced until the end of his life, because it made him happy. Daddy enjoyed working with his hands, whether it was in the garden or around the house. He grew up during the depression and learned to conserve whenever possible. Whatever was broken, he could repair it or replace it. He was a humble man, unassuming, not outspoken, not interested in the politics of the day, but always willing to help a friend or neighbor in need. A good day for Daddy was one spent in fellowship with friends and family, laughing together, and enjoying a meal. He was preceded in death by sisters, Pat Hyde, Janice Quattlebaum, and Peggy Jeffords.
Thank You Lord for our Daddy. He filled our needs and set our course. He was our foundation. We know that today he is resting in Your arms, and that gives us comfort.
Thank you, Daddy. We will miss you greatly. We will always love you. When we see you again, we'll walk together through the fields of God's Kingdom.
Survivors are his wife, Patsy Brannen Carter; children, Tonya Bashlor (Gary), Raeghan Given (Steven Smith), and Holt Simmons (Cindy); grandchildren Jordan Given and Gabe Bashlor (Lindsey); great-grandchildren Ryan Given and Greyson Bashlor; sisters, Gerry Vaughn and Vivian Lane.
