Ignacio de Jesus Palacio, 64, of Jesup, Ga. died at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. Ignacio was born in Havana, Cuba to Ricardo and Fausta Palacio in 1957. Ignacio's family moved to the United States in 1960 and lived in Florida, Ohio and Virginia. He met Debbie at the Ohio State University and they were married in 1989. After the honeymoon, he began Officer Basic Course in the U.S. Army at Ft. Sill in Lawton, OK. He was stationed at Ft. Stewart and then deployed during Operation Desert Shield. After the military, Ignacio began a law enforcement career at FCI in Jesup and held several positions during his 21 years of service. At retirement, his title was Drug Treatment Specialist Counselor.
Ignacio enjoyed classical guitar, painting, woodworking, gardening and archery and devoted 20 years to the sport of archery. Enjoyment came by helping the children and adults succeed to the best of their abilities while having fun. He was an active member of First Baptist Church where he played guitar, taught the Singles Sunday School Class and served as a deacon. His favorite scripture was Galatians 2:20, "I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." This is the reason why he was committed to serving others. He wanted everyone to understand "Jesus Christ in you, the hope of Glory." Among his titles, his favorite was "Daddy". He loved spending time with his 3 boys camping, fishing, playing games or hanging together. There was always laughter and love present. Ignacio's handsome smile, warmth and tenderness lives on in his 3 sons.
Survivors are his wife of 33 years, Debbie Palacio of Jesup; 3 sons, Andrew Palacio of Jesup, William Palacio, and Anthony (Allyse) Palacio both of Statesboro; brother, Gabriel (Evelyn) Palacio of Miami, Fla.
