Odum, Ga.

Stan Newman, Jr., 22, of Odum, died Thursday, February 22, 2018.  The Augusta native lived in Wayne County the past 9 years, attended Jesup Church of God, and was a 2013 Wayne County High School Graduate.  Stan was a detention officer with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department.  He loved coon hunting with his Uncle Eddie, fishing with his father in their pond, and playing his guitar which he taught himself to play.  He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Helen Mae Wingard, and maternal grandfather, Cecil W. Surrency.

Survivors are his mother and father, Kimberly Surrency Newman and George Stanley Newman, Sr. of Odum; maternal grandparents, Vernon and Vivian Surrency Aspinwall of Jesup; aunts and uncles, Sandra and Eddie Surrency of Odum and Patsy and Larry Benner of Wilmington, North Carolina; cousins, Christy Surrency (Sean) Ellerbee of Monroe and Aubree Benner of Wilmington, North Carolina.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2018, at Unity Church of God with Pastor Calvin Anderson and Rev. Clayton Dowd officiating.  Interment will be in Red Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Eddie Surrency, Travis Walling, Blake Mosley, Steven Boyles, Wesley Phillips, Sean Ellerbee, Jackson and Benjamin Ellerbee.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 prior to service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Unity Church of God, 1580 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA  31545 or the charity of your choice.
