Screven, Ga. George R. Mammen, 74 of Screven, Ga. died Thursday, September 3, 2015. The Illinois native attended Screven United Methodist Church, was a 20 year retired U.S. Navy Veteran that served in the Vietnam War and a very active member of the VFW Post 4583. He loved to tinker with trucks and work in the barn. He was predeceased by a son, John Mammen and several siblings. Survivors are his wife, Shirley S. Mammen of Screven, Ga.; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and John Atkinson of Bradenton, Fla., Virginia and Tom Houston of Candor, NY, Ron and Yvonne Cross of Jesup, Ga., Dawn and Larry Blackwell of Screven, Ga.; two sons, Dwayne Mammen of Owego, NY, Michael Mammen of Vestal, NY; a step-daughter, Sherry and Donnie Mullis of Screven, Ga.; step-sons, Jerry and Amy Beecher of Screven, Ga., Gene Blackwell of Hobart, Indiana; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bob and Carol Cummings of Washington, Don Mammen of Bloomington, Ill.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Screven United Methodist Church with Rev. Patrick Brannen and Rev. Donnie Mullis officiating along with the American Legion Post 311's presentation of the U.S. Flag. Interment will be in the Screven City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the members of the VFW Post 4583. Visitation will be 4 to 6 P.M. Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home.
