George T. Brantley, Jr., 83 of Jesup, Ga. died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 after an extended illness. The Johnson County, Ga. native had lived in Wayne County, Ga. the past 41 years and was a member of Jesup First Baptist Church, the Golden Rulers Sunday School Class and a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a retired banker serving as President of Sun Trust Bank for many years. He enjoyed fishing on the St. Johns River in Astor, Fla., hunting at Penholloway, plowing on his tractor, watching Georgia Bulldog Football and most of all, making great memories with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents George T. Brantley, Sr. and Maude Claxton Brantley and his sister, Carolyn Norris. Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Erin New Brantley of Jesup, Ga.; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Greg Coleman, Wanda Jones and Steve Daniels, both of Jesup, Donna and Al Owen of Newnan, Ga.; a son, George Thomas Brantley, III of Washington, Ga.; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Tom Hice of Auburn, Ga.; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Glynn and Shirley Brantley of Braselton, Ga., Jarrel and Mary Ellen Brantley of Vinings, Ga., Wayne and Pat Brantley of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren, Michael and Kelly Hargrove, Jennifer and Lee Daniels, Joseph Hargrove, Amy Coleman Smith, Ashley and Curtis Hutton, Elizabeth Coleman, Emily Coleman, Alison Owen, Erin and Larry Madaris, Justin "Jay-Jay" Jones, Cyndi Rae Jones; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special family friends, Marty and Christina Owens; and honorary granddaughter, Addison Owens. Funeral services will be 3 P.M. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Jesup First Baptist Church with Dr. Felix Haynes officiating. Interment will be in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Michael Hargrove, Justin Jones, Joseph Hargrove, Bill Brantley, Lee Brantley and Thomas Hice. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Golden Rulers Sunday School Class and the Liars Club of Jones Pharmacy. Visitation will be 2 to 3 P.M. prior to services at the church.
