Essie Mae Thornton, 85, of Jesup, Ga. died Sunday, June 4, 2023. The Appling County native had lived most of her life in Jesup, Ga. and worked for many years with Manhatten Shirt Factory and later with Parks Manufacturing as well as   Georgia Narrow Fabrics. She was the widow of George H. Thornton.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Tyrone (Brenda) Thornton of Jesup; granddaughter, Hannah Thornton (Joe Withrow) of Odum; sister, Jean McGlohon Herndon of Jesup; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Alvin Johnson and Rev. Paul Rhoden officiating. Interment will follow in Big Creek Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Danny Griffis, Ronnie Young, Tim Horton, Lawrence Goober, Ray Horton and Ronnie Young, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Baptist Village.

Family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
