Earl Morris, 92 of Odum, went peacefully to his heavenly home on Monday, April 15, 2024. He was a lifelong resident of Odum, Georgia, which he lovingly referred to as "God's Country". Earl was born on April 12, 1932 to Ellis and Mamie Aspinwall Morris. He spent his youth working on the family farm until being drafted into the army in 1951. He served two years stateside as an Army medic in Battlecreek, Michigan. After the army, he came home and met and later married Jeanette Peebles, the love of his life. He was a Barber for 47 years and also retired from Wayne Correctional Institute. He was an avid gardener, supplying many Odum residents with his fresh vegetables. Earl was a renowned story teller regaling his family and friends with an endless repertoire of stories and anecdotes. He never met a stranger and considered every person he met a dear friend. Earl was a great family man and a generous and loyal friend to many. He considered his family and multitude of friends to be his greatest legacy and was awarded the 2006 Odum Family of the Year. Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Jeanette P. Morris, parents Ellis and Mamie A. Morris, three brothers, Eugene, Leon, and Linton Morris, and a sister- in- law, Janette Edenfield Morris.
He is survived by his children, Steven Earl "Stevie" (June) Morris, Jo Ann (Cliff) Woods, and Rock (Teresa) Morris, grandchildren, Brandon (MaryAnn) Yeomans, Krystal (Kasey) Keith, Kevin (Chelsie) Morris, and Erica (Alan) Scott. Great grandchildren, Aiden Yeomans, Taylor Yeomans Karson Grace Keith, Hunter Scott, Bailey Scott, and Carson Scott, and a new baby boy Morris due in August; an aunt, Sadie Russell; sister- in- lw Cherry Morris, and a multitude of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Hayward Bass, Rev. Varney Aspinwall, and Rev. Pete Boyd officiating. Interment will be in Odum City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Brandon Yeomans, Kevin Morris, Kasey Keith, Jim Westberry, Howell Clements, Jeff Horton, Ray Russell, and Greg Jernigan. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Howard, Johnny Brown, Keith Davis, Donald Aspinwall, Taylor Thornton and the staff of Hospice of Southeast Georgia, Stephanie Chadwick , Debbie Carter, Amy Leiner, and the staff of Cotton Grove Estates.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.
Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
