Harold Andrew "Drew" Thornton Jr., 62, a lifelong resident of Jesup, Ga. passed away on June 8, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah after a short illness, surrounded by family. He graduated from Wayne County High School in 1980. After graduating from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, he continued his education at Georgia Southern University. He was proud to be a small business owner of The Cleaners for many years and served as an accountant at EAM for the past eight years. Drew will always be remembered as selfless, patient and generous and giving to others and never asking for anything in return. His love for his community was shown daily. He enjoyed spending time with his Wednesday night friend group and was loved by many. He was an avid sportsman, who loved hunting, fishing (inshore, offshore and the river) and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. Drew was also a member of the Jesup Elks Lodge. Drew was a devoted husband, father and Dpa and his kindness and love for his wife was felt by everyone around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preacher and Shirlie Thornton, his sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Dwayne Wasdin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Tina; his son, Bailey (Brandi) of Odum and grandson, Beckett; sisters, Dixie (Frank) Poppell of Denver, CO and Shellie Gay (Mitchell) Bohannon of Mt. Pleasant, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 AM on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Rinehart Chapel with Herschell Hires officiating. Interment will follow at the Odum City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Frank Poppell, Joseph Puccio, Timmy Rozier, Pat Ogden, Rodney Madray, Carey Martin, Shorty Stephens and Mitchell Boyette. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Big "O" Hunting Club, Jesup Elks Lodge and Wednesday night Pond House Crew, and ABAC SFW Guys.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jesup Elks Lodge Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 154, Jesup, GA 31598.
Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
