Donnie Whitaker, 75, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022. The Gainesville, Ga. native and former resident of Waycross lived in Screven most of his life and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Donnie followed in his father's footsteps as the beloved local pharmacist in the Screven Community. The UGA graduate held season tickets for over 20 years to root on the Bulldawgs in football.  Some favorite pastimes were fishing off the Fernandina Beach Pier and in Bear Island.  He was also an avid reader and enjoyed gardening in his later life. His parents, Dr. Bill and Bobbie Whitaker preceded him in death along with his brothers, Ronnie and Philip and sister, Brenda Whitaker Thornton; nephew, Dan Thornton and niece, Jena Thornton Yoder.

Survivors are two daughters, Kristy (Daniel) Gose of Savannah and Lori (Robert Tucker) Whitaker of Athens; son, Don (Pam) Whitaker of Gordonsville, Virginia; sister, Charlie (Jim) McCann of Screven; brother-in-love, Danny Thornton of Screven; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2022 in Screven City Cemetery with Durwood Miller officiating.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home.
