Obituary

Linda Diane Higginbotham, the daughter of Ralph Daniel Higginbotham, Sr. and Dorothy Lee Burnham Higginbotham, was born July 17, 1942 in Anniston, Alabama. She attended the Anniston City schools and won the Birmingham News Oratorical Contest and a scholarship with her speech on George Washington Carver.  She chose to attend Birmingham-Southern College where she graduated with degrees in German and Music.  She received her MA and Ed.D. in Music from Teachers College of Columbia University.  Diane, a classical singer, voice teacher, and program annotator, worked and performed with all the New York major musical organizations.  In 2011 she retired and moved to Saint Simons Island, Georgia.  After a long illness she passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Jesup Health and Rehab. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ralph Daniel Higginbotham, Jr.

Survivors are her sister, Nancy (John) Higginbotham Bryson of St. Simons Island; her nephews, Samuel Joseph Bryson of Portland, Oregon and Benjamin Daniel (Mary) Bryson and her great niece, Augusta Burnham Bryson, all of St. Simons Island.

Graveside services will be 11 AM Wednesday, July 24, 2024 in Highland Cemetery in Anniston, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the American Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements locally.
