Obituary

Dr. Derrell Rentz, 83, of Jesup, Ga. passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025 under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Duval County Florida native and U.S. Air Force Veteran had lived in Wayne County since 2002. He was a member and former pastor of Hickox Baptist Church in Brantley County and Red Hill Baptist Church in Wayne County. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Theology as well as a Doctorate of Religious Education and a Master's Degree in Christian Counseling from Luther Rice Seminary College. Brother Derrell served the Lord in ministry through pastoring and counseling for over 50 years. A favorite hobby was reading. His wife, Virginia Baxley Rentz preceded him in death along with a daughter, Julie Agee and a sister, Joyce Conner.

Survivors are 3 daughters, Sheryl (Dewayne) Herrin of Jesup, Kelley (David) Emig of Rogers, AR and Karen Lewis of Lynchburg, VA; 20 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Debbie (Artie) Schlesinger of Long Island, New York and Cindy (Carlos) Cortes of Charlotte, NC; two sons-in-law, Ben Agee of Jesup and Kelly Lewis of Brunswick; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Red Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Alan Morgan and Missionary Barbara Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be his family.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Friday, August 22, 2025 at the funeral home.
