Delvis Ray Murray, known as “Buddy” growing up in Jesup, Georgia, passed away on September 22, 2026, at the age of 92 under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. In 1951, during the Korean War, he withdrew from high school and joined the U.S. Navy, in part to help support his family, where he earned his GED, worked as a baker, and served 4 years. He returned home to work as a police officer in Glynn County but was unimpressed by the chaos of the modern world. So, he re-joined the service, and served in the U.S. Army, where he worked as a Military Police officer and served two tours in the Vietnam War. In 1974, after 17 years in the Army, he retired as an E-7, Sergeant First Class.

Throughout his military career, he traveled the world before he settled down in the Atlanta area, where he owned a business, and helped raise his family. After selling his business, he moved back to Jesup to live in the “little brown shack” of his youth. After a series of falls, he landed in the At Home Senior Living of Jesup, or “jail” as the career MP officer affectionately referred to it. Many caregivers there, including his favorite, Nicole Flores, referred to him as “Granddaddy” after somehow winning them over with his charming personality, for which his three daughters could never quite understand. However, he was married five times, so there must have been something there!

Murray was preceded in death by his parents - father, George Washington Murray in 1941, and mother, Maude Cornelia (Roberson) Murray in 1997, his third wife – Nina (South) Murray in 2002, and his sister - Ruth Dean (Murray) Banegas in 2016.

He is survived by his wife - LaJune Murray of Pierson, Fla., his 3 daughters – Chandra (Murray) Carter of Temple, Colleen Murray Lane (Tony) of Bloomingdale, and Ellyn Murray Olson (Peter) of Cartersville, his 5 grandchildren – Michael Brandon Carter (Kim), Breanne (Lane) Brunson (Chris), Blake Lane, Grey Olson, and Eden Olson – 3 great-grandchildren, and his beloved cat of 20 years, Thomas.

A graveside service will be 10 AM Friday, September 25, 2026 in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Randy Pruitt officiating.
