Obituary

Dedra Adele Broadhurst Johnson, age 76, of Morehead, Kentucky, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, November 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 2, 1949, in Jesup, Georgia, the daughter of the late William Joseph Broadhurst and Dorothy Louise Fennel Broadhurst. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Vivian Mallard of Rexburg, Idaho.

Dedra dedicated her life to faith, family, and education. A devoted Christian, she lived as a reflection of God's grace, kindness, and compassion. Her unwavering faith guided her every step and inspired all who knew and loved her.

For more than 25 years, Dedra served as an educator in both public and Christian schools in Georgia and Kentucky, touching countless lives with her patience, wisdom, and genuine care. Her students remember her as more than a teacher—she was a mentor, an encourager, and a shining example of love in action.

Beyond the classroom, Dedra was deeply involved in Christian rehabilitation ministries, where she faithfully proclaimed the gospel of Jesus Christ and witnessed many lives transformed by God's grace. She believed every person was a child of God and treated everyone she met with warmth and respect. Dedra will be remembered always and greatly missed.

She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Gerald "Jerry" Johnson; one son, Gregory Leggett (Jana) of Odum, Georgia; three daughters, Drina Boatright of Jesup, Georgia, Serena Willoughby (Daniel) of Ashland, Kentucky, and Stacy Scott (Xavier) of Hillsboro, Kentucky; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Danny Broadhurst (Lawanda) of Jesup, Georgia, along with extended family, friends, and former students who will continue to carry her light in their hearts.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, November 15, 2025 in Odum City Cemetery with Bishop George Moxley and Rev. Scott Hatten officiating.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Friday, November 14, 2025 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home.
