Jesup, Ga. Daniel M. Poppell, Sr., 85, of Jesup, Ga. died Tuesday, February 28, 2012, after a short illness. The Wayne County, Ga. native was a member of the Jesup First United Methodist Church and retired from Rayonier after 32 years. He was a veteran in the U.S Navy serving in World War II and was a member of the Jesup Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking and VW restoration along with many other hobbies and interests. He is predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Beverly Jones Poppell; his parents, Sherod and Carrie Mae Poppell; 2 brothers, Marcus Poppell and Broward Poppell; and 2 sisters, Louise Poppell and Helen Harrell. Survivors are his 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Danny Poppell of Lawrenceville, GA and Frank and Dixie Poppell of Santa Fe, NM; 4 grandchildren, Kathryn Poppell of Boston, MA, Alex Poppell of Lawrenceville, GA, Jessica P. Cuddy and Kristen Poppell, both of Denver, CO; and a very special "adopted" family, Derek, Nicole, Hunter, Hannah, Haleigh, and Mary Ann Landon, all of Jesup, GA. Memorial services will be at 2 P.M. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Rinehart and Sons Chapel. Interment for the family will be in the Piney Grove Church Cemetery. Visitation will immediately follow the memorial service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Amedisys Hospice Services, 55 Old Norcross Road, Suite J, Lawrenceville, GA 30046.
