Obituary

Carlton "Bud" Cleveland Carter, 88, of Jesup, GA. passed away Monday, September 29, 2025 under the care of Hospice of South Georgia and Harborview Health System. The Nichols, Georgia native and U.S. Army Veteran had lived in Wayne County most of his life and was a retired firefighter with Wayne County Fire Department. Bud was a Christian who enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching NASCAR and westerns but mostly spending time in the outdoors. He was deceased by his wife, Shirley Ann Manning Carter, a daughter, Cindy Rivera; brothers, Burt and Jack Taylor; sisters, Ruby McDuff and Carolyn Herndon.

Survivors are two sons, Carlton (Sylvia) Lewis and Carlton "Buddy" (Carla) Carter, Jr., both of Jesup; daughters, Carol (John) Wise, Cheryl (Jack) Ashley, Carla Manning, Chris Campbell, all of Jesup; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Betty Taylor of Florida.

Graveside services will be held 11AM Wednesday, October 1, 2025 in Manningtown Cemetery with Rev. Elliott Aspinwall officiating.

Family will receive friends at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
