Burl Leonard Messer, Jr., 84, of Jesup, Ga. died Thursday, March 24, 2022. The Perry, Fl. native had lived in Wayne County in the Doctortown area all of his life and was a 42-year retiree with Rayonier. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was an avid reader and enjoyed outdoor activities and having coffee with his friends. He was predeceased by his parents; Burl Messer, Sr. and Viola Messer; and a sister, Barbara Courson.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Janice Dykes Messer of Jesup, Ga.; daughters, Tammy (Andy) West of Jesup, Teri (James) Godwin of Screven; sisters, Shirley (Charles) Peiter of Springfield, Missouri, Patsy Ogden of Jesup; 4 grandchildren, Katelyn and Andrew West, Anna and Jacob Godwin; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2022 from Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Greenlee officiating.

Family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home.
