Bobby Jay "B.J." Swartzlander, 85, of Jesup, Ga. passed away, Wednesday, September 25, 2024 under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.  The Florida native had lived in Wayne County for most of his life and was a member of the Seventh Day Advent Church, a heavy equipment operator with Local Union 474 out of Savannah, Ga and a U.S. Army Veteran.  He was a jokester and enjoyed guitar playing, classic cars, and being with his family. He was predeceased in death by a daughter, Gina Swartzlander and several sisters.

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Virginia Mathis Swartzlander of Jesup; a son, Kevin (Kim) Swartzlander of Brunswick; two daughters, Cindy Swartzlander (Phil Jackson) of Screven and Heather (Derek) Edenfield of Jesup; several loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Calvin Anderson officiating.  Interment will follow in George Cemetery with military honors.  Active pallbearers will be family. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow members of Local Union 474.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.

The family extends gratitude to the staff of Hospice of South Georgia for their excellent care.
