Obituary

Aubrey Tillman passed away at his home in Jesup, Georgia, on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at the age of 88.  As a proud Air Force Veteran , he served his country with pride for 28 years.  He enlisted in the Air Force and retired as Chief Master Sergeant after a long and decorated career in the Security Police field.  Following his military career, he worked for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for 16 years. Aubrey will be remembered for his fierce devotion to his family, particularly his wife Betty who was the love of his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. His passion and integrity to those he loved was unwavering. The jokes and stories he loved to tell will live on forever. It brought him immense joy to share stories about his grandchildren and great grandchildren, living for and through his family.  He loved to shop and was a smart dresser. Aubrey's other faithful companion was his music.  His love for guitars began with the Singing Cowboy guitar his grandmother bought him when he was five years old. At sixteen, Aubrey and three friends formed The Down Yonder Boys and played around the local area and on the radio. He claims he was throwing scarves to the girls long before Elvis. He is preceded in death by his parents Arbie and Delma Tillman and brothers Donald, John, and Bill.

Survivors are his wife Betty of 68 years, their daughters Jean Welt (John) of Gulf Breeze, FL, Ronda Stephens (Dell) of Odum, GA, and Ann Clingempeel (Bill) of Huntsville, AL. Four grandchildren, Christopher, David, Stephanie, and Michael, and eleven great grandchildren will cherish their times with Papa.  He is survived by his sister Lavonne Dent of Odum and many nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2022 in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with full Military Honors and Rev. Vann Dempsey officiating and family speaking.  Active pallbearers will be grandsons SFC Christopher Clingempeel, LtCol David Welt, Major Michael Welt, Dell Stephens, Doug Tillman, Al Dent, Carey Martin, and Buddy Martin.  Honorary Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews, Dr. Lance Hendrix, Courtney Hall, and Hospice of South Georgia.

Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2022 at Rinehart Sons Funeral Home Chapel.

His family wishes to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff of Hospice of South Georgia for their unwavering compassion and care during Aubrey's last days. The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be donated in his memory to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA  31546.
